It’s always hard to get a booking at this much-loved modern Thai restaurant – but now it’s giving you access to priority tables.

 

Celebrated Melbourne restaurateur Scott Pickett – whose stable of venues includes Chancery Lane, Smith St Bistrot and others – stepped in to save this iconic restaurant from permanent closure in 2020. But the well-executed Thai menu is very much in the original spirit of Longrain.

 

Expect modern takes on traditional Southeast Asian street food and comfort food, with a focus on local and seasonal produce. Try the banquet for the full experience, which features both classic Longrain dishes such as a betel leaf with prawns, lime and chilli and caramelised pork belly, plus new dishes like southern red curry with tender Blackmore Wagyu beef shin. Or go for the extensive à la carte menu.

 

Our top picks are the filled eggnet with Australian spanner crab and caramelised coconut; the chargrilled saltbush sticky lamb ribs; and a side of green tomato dressed with sesame, cashews and herbs.

 

Get a table for four from Sunday to Thursday at 6pm, or Friday at 12pm.
