Scott Pickett’s flagship restaurant has been a hit in Northcote for more than a decade – and now it’s giving you access to tables every night. 

 

Scott Pickett changed the local hospitality game when he first opened Estelle in 2011, offering creative degustation menus only and just six tables. It’s since evolved to a more casual dining experience, though the food is no less refined.

 

Estelle can be a destination diner – after all, it still has a must-try tasting menu, a striking dining room where you’re seated beneath a Christopher Boots interlocking-hoop light fixture, and has some of its most expensive wines available by the glass. But it’s equally a place where you can drop in at the last minute for $15 vino and charcuterie. It even does a steak night on Tuesdays and roast on Sundays.

 

That’s what makes Estelle one of our favourite places to eat in the city: no matter the occasion, there’s always a reason to stop by.

 

Our top picks from the menu are delicate king dory served with mussel veloute and local asparagus; roasted eggplant nestled in a fragrant turmeric curry; and creamy ricotta ice cream scooped on top of polenta cake.
