This European-style CBD wine bar is always busy, now it’s giving you access to members-only tables.

 

Housed in the same ornate 1930s art deco building as the extravagant Charles Grand Brasserie, this 50-person wine bar keeps things a bit more casual. But you can still expect lavish touches, such as marble countertops and dramatic chandeliers.

 

You could just drop in for a drink (the list is punchy, featuring 20 by-the-glass vinos from lesser-known wineries around France and Australia) and a snack or two, such as chicken-liver parfait with cornichons. Or enjoy a full meal at the bar, with heartier options including rotisserie chicken and frites.

 

Our top picks from the menu are the chicken panisse with white anchovy and lemon; the market crudites dipped in smoked almond praline; and the unmissable Jack’s Creek flat iron steak with fries and relish.
