Join us for a private, after-hours tour of the groundbreaking exhibition – a first in 10 years for the gallery – including a Q&A with Broadsheet’s editorial director and NGV's curator of First Nations art. Then, celebrate at Hazel over an intimate private dinner with an Access-only menu themed around the exhibition.
Ten years on from its landmark debut, the NGV’s Melbourne Now exhibition returns. Its bold new iteration features more than 200 works by Victorian artists and designers, including Christian Thompson, Esther Stewart and Atong Atem. Together, these works serve as an overview of Victoria’s cultural landscape and the people who are shaping it. Expect fashion, jewellery, painting, sculpture, architecture, ceramics, video, virtual reality, performance, photography, graphic design and more. Plus, 60 world premieres commissioned especially by the NGV.
We’re celebrating the exhibition’s opening with an exclusive, Access-only viewing followed by an intimate dinner at top Melbourne restaurant Hazel on Tuesday April 4.
Start with a glass of champagne in the gallery’s foyer, where you’ll hear first-hand insights from NGV curator of First Nations art, Shonae Hobson, in conversation with Broadsheet editorial director Katya Watchel. You’ll then have the rare chance to explore the first floor of the exhibition at your own pace.
The celebration of Melbourne art continues in the secluded atrium at Hazel – the sustainable Flinders Lane eatery from Mulberry Group's Nathan Toleman Liminal, Lilac Wine, Dessous. The one-off dinner will champion local and small-scale producers, starting with a bespoke cocktail followed by four courses totally inspired by the exhibition. You can add a drinks package for $55, or get them by the glass. Wachtel, Hobson and Melbourne Now artists will also be in attendance.
Secure your spot via the link below. Exhibition preview tickets (not including the dinner at Hazel) are available for $35 – follow the link below and select “general admission”.
