Jackalope’s casual Mornington Peninsula eatery is always packed – but now you can secure a table any day of the week.

Overlooking Willow Creek’s 11-hectare vineyard and the lavish Jackalope Hotel, Rare Hare is a communal restaurant with plenty of charm. On weekends, the dining room is filled with lively diners sharing charcuterie and the winery’s own pinot noir, chardonnay and sparkling. And on cold days, a double-sided fireplace keeps the large, chatty room comfortable.

The menu is thoroughly contemporary; start with small share plates, oysters and top-grade European smallgoods before moving on to simply dressed seasonal veggies and woodfired meats.

Our top picks are the press octopus with turmeric onions and peas; the buttermilk fried barramundi wings slathered in firecracker sauce; and the Westholme Wagyu rump cap topped with salsa verde.

Get a table for two, four or six at midday or 3pm, any day of the week.

You can book 30 days in advance (and a minimum of two days prior) of your desired booking date.

Heading to the Peninsula? You can also get a table at Jackalope’s fine diner Doot Doot Doot.
