This Vietnamese-inspired restaurant from the Hanoi Hannah and Tokyo Tina crew is always popular – now it’s giving you access to members-only tables.

Inside an old furniture warehouse, Vietnamese-born chef Steven Ngo (ex-Long Chim) is serving up flavoursome, fun dishes at Firebird. Peer into the open kitchen – where massive woodfired ovens and charcoal grills fire up Vietnamese-style fare – before taking a seat in the dimly lit dining room surrounded by projections and sunburnt-orange decor.

There’s heat across the entire menu, from barbeque corn and flame-licked free-range chicken (the restaurant’s namesake) to cocktails made with charred grapefruit and burnt plums. There’s also an extensive wine list designed to pair with the smoky aromas of the food.

Our top picks are the flat-pressed banh mi with charred eggplant relish; scotch quail-eggs with salted-duck-egg relish; and a play on the retro French duck à l’orange, slow-roasted over the grill and laced with Vietnamese five-spice.

We’ve got a table for two, from Tuesday to Thursday and Sunday at 7pm, and Friday and Saturday at 6.15pm, reserved just for Access members.

You can book 30 days in advance (and a minimum of two days prior) of your desired booking date.

Love Firebird? Check out our table at moody Chinese-inspired eatery Moonhouse and Vietnamese favourite New Quarter, also from the Commune Group.
