Irish writer-director John Carney – the man behind Sing Street and Once – knows a thing or two about exploring music on film. His upcoming flick Power Ballad is a feel-good comedy about tunes, self-respect and friendship – and we have a handful of free tickets to give away to some lucky Broadsheet Access members.

The film sees Rick (Paul Rudd), a has-been wedding singer, bond with fading boy-band star Danny (Nick Jonas) over a drunken jam session. But when Danny turns one of Rick’s tunes into the hit that launches his career comeback, Rick sets out to reclaim the recognition he thinks he deserves.

There’s a soundtrack full of earworms, but Power Ballad is not a musical – it’s a comedy about musicians. And a chance for both leads to pull of surprisingly emotional performances in amongst the hilarity.
