The Archibald Prize for portrait painting is Australia’s most significant art award, and we’re giving away 75 double passes for you to see the finalists’ work. Hurry – it’s first in, best dressed.

From May 6 to September 3, the Archibald, Wynne and Sulman prize finalists will be exhibited at the Art Gallery of New South Wales. Now in its 102nd year, the Archibald Prize for portrait painting is Australia’s most prestigious art accolade. This year’s winner is 29-year-old Sydney-based artist Julia Gutman, whose textural portrait depicts her close friend, singer-songwriter Montaigne.

The exhibition gives you the chance to view Gutman’s work, the winners of the Wynne and Sulman Prizes (which are awarded to the best landscape pieces and the best genre, subject or mural painting respectively), and portraits of famous faces and local heroes from all walks of life – including the late Archie Roach, Claudia Karvan and Latrell Mitchel. For the first time in the Archibald Prize’s history, there are more women artists than men among the 57 finalists, and more Indigenous artists represented than ever before across each of the categories.
