Sydney Chamber Opera’s Awakening Shadow is a fascinating interpretation of English composer Benjamin Britten’s five Canticles (1947–1974), entwined with a performance by British and Australian composer Luke Styles. It’s the first time Styles – who’s had an extensive career on the international stage – will have an operatic work heard in Sydney.

 

Be mesmerized as a quartet of singers performs in front of a large screen on which a video work unfolds, exploring Britten’s complex and evolving relationship with faith.

 

Awakening Shadow is presented at Sydney’s Carriageworks, the country’s largest contemporary multi-arts precinct.
