Grace Tame is an inspirational social activist and passionate advocate for survivors of sexual assault, particularly those who were abused in institutional settings. As a teenager, she experienced traumatic and ongoing sexual abuse by her maths teacher. He was later found guilty, but Tame was unable to legally speak out due to Tasmania’s sexual assault victim gag laws – only the media and her perpetrator could. As a result, Tame set out to change those laws and help give a platform to survivors like her. In 2021, Tame became Australian of the Year and has since bravely used her profile to spark conversation and action in this difficult space.

On the release of her memoir, The Ninth Life of a Diamond Miner, Tame will be touring the country to talk about her life. The tour will support the not-for-profit Grace Tame Foundation, which campaigns for and helps fund initiatives to prevent and respond to sexual abuse of children and others.
