Osteria Mucca is opening in Newtown and Access members can be among the first to sample its old-world Italian plates. Expect cocktails on arrival, plus a Q&A with Osteria Mucca’s head chef, Janina Allende.

The long-awaited opening of Osteria Mucca in Newtown has finally arrived. It’s the fourth and final addition to a slate of restaurants now housed in the Paisano & Daughters precinct. Access members are invited to an exclusive Readers Dinner on April 9.

Osteria Mucca is the latest offering from the team behind Continental Deli. It’s helmed by head chef Janina Allende (ex-Alberto’s Lounge, Valentina and Pellegrino 2000), with award-winning pastry chef Lauren Eldridge on dessert. The menu is a love letter to old-world Italy. Allende draws from family recipes to craft honest, time-honoured dishes. The dining room is in an old butcher's shop, and the team has held onto its original tiles and worn edges for a nostalgic feel.

The Readers Dinner will be an intimate affair – it’s a 40-seat venue, so tickets are limited. You’ll be greeted with a cocktail on arrival, before sitting down for a long, convivial Italian feast. While the menu remains a surprise, expect the likes of mellanzane sott'olio, spaghetti with prawns, lemon and bottarga, and house made sausages. Allende will be on hand for a Q&A, too.
