Want to avoid the crowds at renowned British artist Barbara Hepworth’s first-ever Australian exhibition? For one night only, we’re hosting a private viewing with Heide’s artistic director and head curator.

Barbara Hepworth: In Equilibrium is finishing up in a few weeks. Don’t miss your chance to see 40 of Hepworth’s iconic sculptures at an exclusive after-hours viewing at Heide Museum of Modern Art on February 23.

Start with a glass of bubbles in the gallery’s foyer, where you’ll hear first-hand insights about the artist and her work from Heide’s artistic director Lesley Harding and head curator Kendrah Morgan in a Q&A with Broadsheet’s editorial director Katya Wachtel. You’ll then have the chance to explore the exhibition at your own pace while the museum is closed to the public.

Hepworth was one of the leading British artists of her generation and the first woman sculptor to achieve international recognition. The first exhibition of her work in Australia, Barbara Hepworth: In Equilibrium brings together some of her most iconic sculptures and paintings from the 1930s to the 1970s, from her early pierced sculptures to her intricate use of strings and colour to fill the “sculptural void”. The exhibition reveals that, despite the abstract style, Hepworth created relatable images that draw on poignant themes of relationships, humanism, the landscape and environmental conversation.
