Melbourne’s winter festival is back – and members get first access to presale tickets ahead of the wider Broadsheet audience and 48 hours before the general public.

From June 7 to 18, the city will be lit up once again by Rising Festival: an “explosion of culture” featuring multimedia works from local and international artists in Melbourne’s theatres, rooftops, streets, car parks and waterways across 12 nights.

The festival’s lead announcement – Euphoria – is a major new international commission from German artist Julian Rosefeldt. The feature-length, multichannel installation will take over Melbourne Town Hall with a spiralling vortex of screens, 360-degree visuals, duelling jazz drummers, a children’s choir and even an appearance by Cate Blanchett.

The full 2023 program is yet to be revealed, and if past seasons are anything to go by, it’ll be an exhilarating line-up of events. Previous highlights include The Wilds, which turned the grounds of Sidney Myer Music Bowl into a sprawling bamboo forest complete with mirror illusions, sculptures, video art and an ice-skating rink where guests were serenaded by a 200-person community choir; a takeover of multistorey Chinatown car park Golden Square with a maze of sculptures and video installations, plus two bars; and globe-spanning music program featuring the likes of Moses Sumney, Kelly Lee Owens, Sampa The Great and Tkay Maidza.

Presale tickets for Rising 2023 are available to the public soon, but we’re giving members first access 48 hours beforehand.

Rising tickets will sell out quickly, so don’t miss the chance to secure yours early.
