Kagami is a new kind of concert. It’s an ambitious mixed reality performance on Asia Topa’s 2025 program, a collaboration between the late Japanese composer Ryuichi Sakamoto (behind The Last Emperor’s Academy Award-winning score) and Tin Drum company. And we’re giving away limited double passes to experience it on opening night. (Yes, there’ll be bubbles.)
You’ll be invited to don “magic glasses”, which fuse the real world setting with three-dimensional moving images, placing you on a virtual stage with Sakamoto, who’s perched at a grand piano. A pioneering avant-gardist, Sakamoto created the concert in the months preceding his death. The result? A haunting, intimate reincarnation.
Kagami, praised by the Guardian for its “sheer technical wizardry”, premiered at Manchester International Festival, and toured The Shed in New York and Roundhouse in London.
Tickets drop Febuary 14 and will be very limited, so don’t miss out.
Kagami is presented as part of Asia TOPA, a city-wide celebration of art, culture and community. Asia TOPA runs 20 February - 10 March at Arts Centre Melbourne, Melbourne Arts Precinct and across the city. Expect art in surprising spaces, larger-than-life public installations and cutting-edge dance, music and technololgy.
