Join us for an after-hours look at the gallery’s world-first exhibition celebrating iconic women in film, including a Q&A between Broadsheet’s editorial director and an ACMI curator.

 

ACMI’s new Goddess: Power, Glamour, Rebellion Melbourne Winter Masterpieces exhibition celebrates strong, formidable and iconic women in film. Be dazzled by 150 objects, artworks, props and sketches, including never-before-seen costumes from films such as Thelma & Louise and Crouching Tiger. Expect a showcase of the characters, actors, films and moments from history that have defined and challenged portrayals of femininity, plus an exploration of the cultural changes happening behind the scenes, from the #MeToo movement to the evolution of womanhood in Indian, Chinese and Japanese cinema.

 

Over its first two weeks, the exhibition has already seen plenty of crowds – but we’re giving you the chance to escape them at a one-off, private tour on Tuesday May 9. 

 

Start in the gallery’s foyer with champagne in hand for a conversation between Broadsheet editorial director Katya Wachtel and ACMI curator Julia Murphy. You’ll hear about how the exhibition came to life before exploring all the wonders of Goddess privately and at your own pace.

 

There’s the option to continue the celebrations at ACMI’s restaurant Hero over an intimate, Access-only dinner with Karen Martini and Phillipa Sibley.
