The Archibald Prize for portrait painting is Australia’s most significant art award, drawing in crowds every year. But Access members can escape the crowds with a private viewing.

On June 7, the Art Gallery of NSW will announce the winners of the 2024 Archibald, Wynne and Sulman, before unveiling them to the public on June 8 as part of an annual exhibition of all finalists and winners.

Now in its 103rd year, the Archibald Prize for portrait painting is Australia’s most prestigious art award. Open to any artist living in Australia and New Zealand, it has historically reflected a diverse mix of experiences and highlighted figures from all walks of life. The Wynne Prize for landscape painting of Australian scenery, and the Sulman Prize for subject painting, genre painting or mural projects, have produced equally unique works over the years.

To celebrate, Access members are invited to an exclusive viewing of the annual exhibition on June 25. Starting on level two of the gallery’s South Building, you’ll be treated to a glass of champagne on arrival. You’ll then hear from a yet-to-be-revealed guest artist and the gallery’s Head of Australian Art Wayne Tunnicliffe before exploring the works at your own pace – after-hours and away from the crowds.

Tickets drop Tuesday May 28 and will be very limited, so don’t miss out.

The Archibald, Wynne and Sulman Prizes will be on display at AGNSW from June 8 – September 8, 2024.
