Nathan Toleman’s sustainable Flinders Lane eatery is always popular – now it’s giving you access to members-only tables.
Stretched over two floors of the historic Richard Allen & Son building, Hazel is one of Melbourne’s best eateries, from the team behind Liminal, Lilac Wine, La Cantina and sustainable farm Common Ground Project (where most of the ingredients are sourced from). In a nod to the building’s heritage and aesthetic, Hazel is fitted with pink stone benchtops, hazelnut-hued bentwood chairs and ornate lights.
The menu’s focus is seasonal produce, sustainable suppliers and low-waste preparation, while the drinks list is filled with local and international wines and punchy cocktails including a signature Strawberry Negroni and a Kumquat Highball.
Our top picks on the menu are grilled Padron peppers with house-made pancetta; the Warialda beef tartare with fermented chilli and anchovy cream; and the decadent honey tart with cultured cream.
