The relaxed southern Italian-inspired trattoria – that’s always popular with Double Bay locals – is giving you access to members-only tables. 

 

The star of Matteo’s is undoubtedly the pizza. The dough here is proved twice, making it perfectly light and elastic. As for the rest of the menu? It’s designed to complement the pizza, with simple dishes and pastas. But there are a few show stoppers too, from the salt-encrusted snapper that’s cracked open tableside to the Amalfi-style, parsley-infused scialatielli (long, square-sided pasta).

 

Matteo’s front courtyard is also one of our top picks for aperitivo hour, where you can enjoy snacks and a modern Italian drinks list led by a selection of different spritzes. 

 

Our top picks from the menu are the lemon and pepper grilled lamb skewers and the fregola all’amalfitana (a pasta served with a braised seafood sauce). And you can’t go wrong with any of the pizzas (but our personal favourite is topped with ricotta, eggplant and smoked mozzarella).
