This sleek new wine bar and restaurant from the Nomad team is always pumping – but now it’s giving you access to members-only tables every night of the week.

 

Taking its cues from the Middle East, Beau is the moody 40-seat sibling to Surry Hills institution Nomad. Walk down a secret laneway entrance to find the intimate, jet-black space with a centrepiece glass-fronted wine wall behind the bar. Choose from several hundred bottles – cellared in a temperature-controlled cabinet – sourced from small producers around the world. If you’re not ready to commit to a bottle, sip on locally sourced tap wines instead.

 

Keeping its extensive wine list company is a menu championing fresh seafood and inventive yet comforting bar snacks. Expect Skull Island tiger prawns on ice topped with roast prawn mayonnaise, and slow-roasted lamb neck with sweet and sour eggplant – a nod to the diner's Middle Eastern roots.

 

Our top picks from the menu are the Padron peppers with Olasagasti anchovies and fried bread; the spatchcock with toum, preserved lemon and pickled grapes; and the pecan maple tart with crème fraîche.
